Some topics make me really excited to talk about. This is one of those topics. Donuts? Yup. Supporting a great cause? Double Yup.
The Other Side Donuts is a social enterprise benefitting The Other Side Village, a “master-planned community of healing and purposeful living for people coming out of chronic homelessness.” The donut shop, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, is staffed by residents of the village, and all proceeds are passed back to the village for its continued operations.
The donut shop focuses on empowering their employees and helping them develop the technical skills necessary to thrive in today’s workplaces. From their website
The Village is founded on the conviction that housing alone will never solve homelessness, but community will. A strong culture of personal growth, support, and connection is at the heart of our model.
Our social enterprises provide vital training where individuals learn valuable work skills, develop a strong work ethic, and build self-reliance.
I am a big fan of them, their mission, and The Other Side organization as a whole. I’m not sure the average SLC resident has any idea the impact that The Other Side organization has on our city.
If you’re looking for a double-whammy of supporting a public good while also making your tastebuds happy, stop by their shop on Redwood Road and check them out.
